Billy Bob (Bud) Thornton & The Boxmasters make their debut on the Alabama Theatre stage on Sunday, July 26th at 7pm ET., as part of the current tour in support of their 21st studio album, "In the Bay", which was released on June 12th. Founded by award-winning actor Thornton ("Landman", "Sling Blade", etc.) and GRAMMY winning recording engineer J.D. Andrew in 2006, The Boxmasters have recorded an impressive and diverse catalogue of music that touches on their love of a wide array of influences, most importantly the rock and roll of the 1960s.
The band's 2026 "Morro Rock Tour" began in June and is scheduled to run through August, with performances across the U.S. Andrew and Thornton showcase their love for the sounds of the sixties in this newest album, "In The Bay" which was inspired by time spent in Morro Bay, CA and features a blend of 1960s rock influences with a strong nod to the The Beach Boys' signature sound.
Listening to The Boxmasters, one can hear these obvious odes to the Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, but also important to The Boxmasters are The Mothers of Invention, The Allman Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and Big Star.
As a touring band, The Boxmasters have cultivated a rabid cult fanbase across the United States, Canada and now Europe and the United Kingdom. In 2025, The Boxmasters opened for one of the top three bands in history, The Who, on their “The Song Ends Tour” in Sunrise, FL and Newark, NJ. In Sunrise, manager Bill Curbishly revealed that only three bands had received a standing ovation as the opening act in The Who history. The Boxmasters were the third.
