Asleep At the Wheel - Riding High Tour

Asleep At the Wheel’s “Riding High” tour celebrates 55 years of Texas Western swing, featuring their 32nd album Riding High in Texas and a lineup blending longtime members with new voices like Ian Stewart. Alabama Theatre is excited to welcome Asleep At the Wheel for the first time to our stage on Friday, September 18, at 7pm. Questions? Formed in 1970 and based in Austin, TX since 1974, Asleep at the Wheel is a band deeply rooted in Texas and Western swing tradition. Their 2025–2026 “Riding High” tour showcases their latest album, Riding High in Texas, which features Ian Stewart and Ray Benson sharing lead vocals, alongside new members Michael Archer (bass), Curtis Clogston (steel guitar/dobro), and Lyon Graulty (horns).

The tour reflects the band’s long history of lineup changes — over 100 members have passed through since 1970 — and their commitment to evolving while staying true to their Texas heritage. Stewart, an Austin native, joined after a recommendation from original member Danny Levin, bringing fresh energy to the group.

Each show blends traditional Western swing with modern arrangements, often featuring horns, fiddle and steel guitar, and is known for its toe-tapping, dance-friendly energy. The performances honor Texas music legends while introducing younger audiences to the genre’s rich traditions.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this night of Texas Western swing, blended with a mix of timeless classics and new album tracks. All come together for a night of high-energy, dance-filled performances, performed by a band that has been “Riding High in Texas” for over five decades, at Alabama Theatre on September 18th at 7pm.
