Shelby Whitwam is a dancer and aerialist from Holden Beach, NC. She began her dance journey at the age of two at her hometown dance studio. She went on to receive advanced training in multiple dance styles and acrobatics at the Academy of Dance and Fine Arts under the direction of Marcie Willis, Stephanie Bonn, and Karen Deese. Shelby has further expanded her artistry through training with nationally-recognized dancers and choreographers, building a strong technical foundation, musicality and versatility suited for the professional stage.
At just 13, Shelby began student teaching and choreographing, establishing an early professional mindset and a distinctive creative voice. A seasoned competitive dancer, she has earned numerous regional and national titles, along with special recognition for her passion for dance and audience-connecting smile. Shelby was also a 4-year member of her high school dance team, during which time she was chosen as an All American Dancer by both the National Dance Alliance and the Universal Dance Association. When she is not on the stage, she enjoys teaching dance classes and workshops and doing guest choreography throughout the state. Shelby brings high energy, precision, and unwavering dedication to every performance and she is grateful to be part of the amazing and talented cast at Alabama Theatre.
